Physio2Mums understands how privileged we are in Australia to have access to some of the best healthcare in the world for both mums and babies. Unfortunately in some Countries, babies and mothers are not so fortunate, where many mothers during or after giving birth, and babies who are born prematurely often succumb to illnesses that we can treat successfully in Australia.
To give you some further understanding:
In Uganda specifically:
Physio2Mums is extremely proud to be partnering with the Adara Group by donating 1% of total annual revenue to help fund multiple health projects in Uganda. Some of the health projects Physio2Mums will be helping with specifically, include Specialised Newborn Care and Maternal Health Care.
100% of any donation goes directly to Adara’s programmes in Uganda, because of Adara’s business model covering all administration and infrastructure costs
Details of Adara's initiatives can be found here, and involve:

To give you some further understanding:
- Every day, 830 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth.
- 99% of these deaths occur in developing countries. Most can be prevented.
- Every year, 2.7 million deaths (almost half of all under-five deaths) occur during the first month of life)
- Of these, almost 1 million deaths occur on the day of birth and 2 million in the first week of life
- Premature birth is the number one killer of children under 5 years old
- Respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) is the most common cause of disease and death in babies born before 34 weeks' gestation, with more than 65% suffering from it
In Uganda specifically:
- Women have a 1 in 44 lifetime risk of maternal death compared to the USA - 1 in 1800 and Australia - 1 in 9000
- 42% of all births take place without a skilled attendant present, despite evidence that a skilled attendant at birth could help avert:
- 20% of all maternal deaths
- 43% of all newborn deaths
- 45% of stillbirths during labour
- 34,602 babies die every year during their first 28 days of life
